Artist Statement:
On a fortunate evening under desert skies, I joined a team of astrophysicists—curious not just about stars, but about the way we see. I brought my SLR, not with a plan, but with a willingness to play. I opened myself to chance: experimenting with exposure, shifting perspective, letting the camera move as freely as my gaze.
In this series, light and darkness do not oppose one another—they converse. The images oscillate between clarity and abstraction, capturing not only the sky but the space between intention and accident. What emerged was a dance of photons and shadows, moments held and moments lost.
These works explore the idea that seeing is never static. By surrendering technical control, I allowed emotion, motion, and intuition to guide the process—echoing how we often encounter the unknown: not through precision, but through wonder. This body of work invites the viewer to experience the cosmic and the personal as equally infinite, held together by curiosity and light
Why 'Catching Light'
Catching Light reflects the interplay between intention and accident in my exploration of light and darkness. Inspired by an evening in the desert with my team of astrophysicists, this work embraces the fluidity of perception, where light and shadow converse rather than oppose. Through experimentation with exposure and perspective, I allowed emotion, intuition, and chance to guide the process, inviting the viewer to witness the cosmic and the personal as intertwined. The title encapsulates the transient, elusive nature of both light and experience—caught, but never fully captured.
